The counts can be determined for a point source or an extended source from binned image data or from photon event file data. The counts can also be determined for a circular, ring-shaped or rectangular region from image data or from photon event file data. In case of a point-source the counts can be determined with the local and with the map detection technique using the commands
DETECT/LOCAL,see section 5.2.5 and
DETECT/MAP,see section 5.2.6. The source counts are written to the column with the label :COUNT in the source tables with the default names lslst1.tbl and mslst1.tbl.
DETECT/MAXLIK,see section 5.2.8 delivers from photon event file data the counts which are written to the column with the label :CTS in the source tables with the default names solst.tbl and mllst.tbl. For a circular, ring-shaped or rectangular region the counts can be determined from an image with the commands (c.f. sections 5.2.27 and 5.2.28.
INTEGRATE/RINGand
INTEGRATE/BOXThe circle, ring and rectangle can either be specified by cursor input or by numbers. For photon event file data the PROJECTION commands have to be applied.
