Timing Analysis

This chapter of the manual gives a general presentation of the EXSAS Timing Analysis package. The user is supposed to already have experience with timing analysis techniques: no attempt is made to describe the algorithms used, which can be found in the reported references.

Although the system is designed to work from a list of photons (Photon Event Tables), many of the timing analysis commands will optionally work from binned light curves, allowing the users to use it in the most flexible way. Moreover, since the header information needed by the timing programs is minimum, with a little effort it will be possible to adapt any sort of time series to the EXSAS standard format and to use almost all of the timing commands.

Some examples of typical sessions are included in order to give the user a taste of the system and its possibilities. Then the different available commands are explained in some more detail.
