Jupiter's Great Red Spot Region

Jupiter's Great Red Spot Region
From NASA's Planetary Photojournal
This mosaic of the Great Red Spot of Jupiter was taken on July 6 from a range of 2,633,003 kilometers. Around the northern boundary a white cloud is seen, which extends to east of the region. This cloud prevents small cloud vertices from circling the spot. Another white oval cloud is seen south of the Great Red Spot. The structure of these spots is identical. Since they both rotate in the same anticyclonic manner they are meteorologically similar. .
