obscat

This creates a reduced catalogue, based on a selection expression. For instance, to get only the bright data from an SIS catalogue, say

xsel > select obscat ``DATAMODE.eq.'BRIGHT'"

The way it currently works, if a catalogue was made with the make obscat command, then that catalogue is overwritten by the reduced catalogue. Consequently, if you plan to go back to the original catalogue, you should save it first with save obscat. It can then be restored with the load command.

However, if the original catalogue was entered with the load command, it is not overwritten, though Xselect daes not keep track of the parents of any of the reduced catalogues. This facility will be added in the next release.
