Xselect provides the facility to view the image, spectrum and light curve output by the extract command, as well at to bin up and view the HK and auxillary filter file parameters. Two of the plot commands, plot image and plot curve allow the graphical entry of selections.
The image most recently produced by the bin command can be viewed with the command
xsel > plot image
This spawns an SAOImage session, and the user can select regions and write out the region description files. When we learn how to make Xselect talk with SAOImage, we will keep one SAOImage session open for the rest of the Xselect session, but for now, you must start up a new session with each plot image command.
The light curve most recently produced can be viewed with the command
xsel > plot curve
This command also provides a mouse driven way to enter timing selections.
You can plot the spectrum with
xsel > plot spectrum
Also, to aid in the select hk and select mkf commands, the parameters in the HK file, and the columns in the MKF file can be plotted. This must be done in two steps, first bin them (more than one parameter can be binned at a time) using either
xsel > hkbin
or
xsel > mkfbin
Then you plot the parameters with the commands
xsel > plot hk
or
xsel > plot mkf
Again, you can see more than 1 parameter per plot.
