read 431-read - enter datafiles by name enter datafiles by name

Read in up to 999 datafiles.

xsel > read <readmode> <infiles> <usegti> <hkfiles> <expand>

xsel > read science ``file1 file2" yes

xsel > read hk hkfiles=``file1hk file2hk" expand=no

The possible values of readmode are:

s - reads in the Event (science) files, and if usegti=yes, the gti files, using a default naming convention. hk - reads in the HK files. The variable expand tells whether they are in expanded form or not. d - reads in the Event files, and the gti and HK files uning a default naming convention.

Two subsequent reads, with no clear in between, adds the new data files to the list of files already entered.

You do not have to be in the directory which contains the data. You will be prompted for the directories containing the Event and HK data.

Read and choose can be freely mixed, but if HK files are needed, each HK file must occupy the same position in the HK list as its corresponding event file does in the event file list. This feature can be used to mix files which do not follow the naming convention with those that do.

It is often easier to respond to the prompts; see the example.

Examples:

Example 1:

xsel > read d ft930317_1753.1614G30470M.fits

> The Event file directory > [/tmp/alan] > Are GTI extensions available? >[yes] > The HK file directory > [/tmp/alan] > Are the HK files in expanded form? >[] yes

Example 2:

xsel > read hk

> Give name[s] of FITS HK files >[] file1hk.fits file2hk.fits > Are the HK files in expanded form? >[] yes

This reads in the hk files file1hk.fits and file2hk.fits, and informs the program that they are in expanded form.
