SAXDAS 1.0.0 will soon be available via anonymous ftp from SAX SDC ftp server and the ESA SSD ftp server.
Any SAXDAS version lower than 1.0.0 are still unstable and are not intended for general distribution. Please wait for the availability of version 1.0.0 before retriving it!

SAXDAS has been successfully installed using gcc. We provide, in our anonymous ftp area, the kit to install gcc.
SAXDAS must be installed into a preexisting working installation of ftools 3.5. It requires tcltk (several programs) and perl (1 program), which are, in any case, already requiered by ftools 3.5.
We also provide in our anonymous ftp area a modified version of xselect1.3 (1.3.1) which can read and process SAX MECS and LECS data.
To install SAXDAS:
- make a dir sax in the yoursite/ftools directory
(sax should be at the same level of the asca, rosat
and xte directories)
- get in binary mode the file SAXDAS_x.x.x.tar.gz
- put SAXDAS_x.x.x.tar.gz in the ftools/sax directory
- gunzip SAXDAS_x.x.x.tar.gz
- tar xvf SAXDAS_x.x.x.tar
- Run the configure script: ./configure
configure will check if you have a caldb (checking for the existence of the variable $CALDBHOME. If you have a caldb SAXDAS will be set in order to access the SAX LECS and MECS calibration files via this method. If you do not have a caldb SAXDAS will be set to access the needed calibration files, stored as individual files, in a SAX-specific area under the FTOOLS tree.
if configure successfully finished you should have all Makefiles ready to build SAXDAS. You may want to check the Makefile.ctrl to see if all settings are appropriate to your system.
- Type make build. This should build all
SAXDAS executables.
- Type make install. This should install SAXDAS as a sub-package of FTOOLS (all executables and parameter files in the ftools/bin.host directory)
To install Xselect1.3.1:
- make a dir xselect1.3.1 in the yoursite/ftools directory.
- get in binary mode the file xselect1.3.1.tar.gz
- put xselect1.3.1.tar.gz in the ftools/xselect1.3.1 directory
- gunzip xselect1.3.1.tar.gz
- tar xvf xselect1.3.1.tar.gz
- Type make build. This should build the
xselect executable.
- Type make install. This should install xselect
and the parameter file in the ftools/bin.host directory.
