Executing System Commands

It is possible to execute commands of the operating system inside MIDAS, see e.g. command #8. This is done by typing a $ followed by the operating system command you want to have executed. After this command has been finished you can continue your work inside MIDAS. Since MIDAS executes its applications in a child process (subprocess for VMS) which leaves no traces after termination, you cannot simply use the host command $ cd (Unix) ($ SET DEF in VMS) to change the working directory once you are in a MIDAS session. Instead, use the MIDAS command change/direc for that purpose.
See Chapter 3 for a detailed discussion of the interaction of Midas with the host system.
